On Saturday I headed off down to the Collusus for the "Be Our Sponsored Pro" final. We seemed to drift between Ryans Bar and the card room, but I can safely say most time was spent in the bar!
March 2009 Archives

This is the Boylepoker team with the Jackpot's Mary Ellen after an epic battle which was Sunday's Boylepoker sponsored March Madness team event in the Jackpot.

I said in my last blog that I fancied to see one of us (an Irish person) at the ft in the GUKPT, but Martin Silk actually did a bit more than that - sure didn't he only go and win the effing thing!

For the last couple of weeks when we were in Australia, I'd actually been looking forward to getting back home. Not that we weren't enjoying it over there, but by the end of the trip we'd got a bit lazy and weren't really getting out and doing very much, and it just felt like we'd been there for long enough.

We have a winner!
The final hand has been played, making Noel Magner the winner of the Be Our Sponsored Pro Grand Final.

Alan Reenan is down to 9,900 while Noel Magner has shot into the lead after a number of big pots.
Noel currently has 35,100 but a double up would put him easily back in the game.

And... we are now head to head between Noel Magner and Alan Reenan.

We're back after an hour break for dinner, and the players have gotten into the action straight away.
Enda shoved all in for 3,500 in first position and he was called by Noel Magner.

The current chip standings before the hour break are:
Mark: 5,500
Enda: 6,100
Noel: 19,700
Alan: 15,500

The man from Mayfield takes another scalp.
Event 1 winner Barry Brennan (above) has just been removed from play by Noel Magner.

Another hand and another player gone. We now have five players left in the tournament.
Noel Magner limped preflop and Paddy Ahern and 2 others called.

Stephen McLean is just after being eliminated .

Enda Kendrick is after surviving and all in after his
held up against Alan Reenans
.
Enda shoved from early position and was called by Alan after asking for a count.
It was a well timed double up for Enda who was beginning to get short stacked. The pot brings him up to 4.5k

We're now down to seven as Pat O'Callaghan makes a graceful exit.

Noel Magner is just after another massive double up. All the chips going in pre flop after a raise and re raise All in from Pat O'Callaghan which was instacalled by Noel. It was O'Callaghans 10s v Magners Aces no 10 on the board and the pot was Magners
Chip counts will follow soon

Seat 1 - Mark Reilly: 3,750
Seat 2 - Enda Kendrick: 5,100
Seat 3 - Noel Magner: 6,000
Seat 4 - Pat O'Callaghan: 11,000
Seat 5 - Stephen McLean: 5,600
Seat 6 - Alan Reenan: 4,000
Seat 8 - Patrick Aherne: 4,200
Seat 9 - Barry Brennan: 5,000
Chip counts courtesy of Marty Smyth!

Emmet Saunders, who was shortstacked from early on, is the first to leave the table.
Noel Magner called for 50, Then Emmet shoved all in for 675. Noel called and everyone else folded.
Noel showed Ace Deuce of spades and Emmet had Q2 off suit.
Nothing came to help Emmet one the flop, the turn was also a blank, and the river sealed the deal with an Ace for Noel.
One hour in and there are eight players left fighting iot out for the title.

The Be Our Sponsored Pro live final has started with all nine players at the table. The banter is certainly good with Corkman Noel Magner keeping the craic going asking for a chop before the first card is dealt !
We also have just had our first all in !
Emmet Saunders went all in on the flop holding Ad Kd v Pat O'Callaghans flopped set of 3's. A three on the river made sure that there was no doubt where the pot was going . Emmet had Pat covered but is now struggling for chips from a very early stage and Pat is now well chipped up.

Last nights charity event at the Jackpot was a great success. With names like Eamon Dunphy , Rosanna Davison , Ken Doherty , Nicky Power and Don Fagan in attendance the 92 runner event was always going to be a an eventful night but with over €3,000 raised for a very worthy cause the night itself proved to something special.
The tournament went on until 7.30 am this morning with one Boylepoker employee cruelly going out on the bubble in 10th place at 5am this morning !
1st Damien Balfe €2200
2nd Phlip Godkin €1200
3rd Noel McMahon €910
4th Connor Sweeney €750
5th Steve Chambers €500
6th Daisy €500
7th Eamonn Connelly €500
8th Anto M €400
9th Mr X €400
Bubble 10th €0 Ciaran Corbett :(

With people travelling from all over Ireland, we are gearing up for the live final of the Be Our Sponsored Pro promotion. Tournament kick off is 5pm. We will be posting regular updates here so stay tuned!

Things are beginning to look a bit better now. I'm now up to about £4k for the trip, thanks to winning a £11,5k flip versus Neil Channing. We got it all in pre my ak v his 1010. I had to wait until the river, to hit the front with an old king falling.

It's definitely true what they say, when you are losing it's hard to write about it and such has been the case for the last week or so.
Although I have not been losing much, I definitely haven't been winning. I have played long sessions and have been very happy with my game until the point where my chips go in the middle. This is where the poker gods come in and they have not been helping me very much.

It's been pretty bad here in London so far. I did £1k the first night playing cash and played bad in a £600 tourney last night. So I'm down about £1,600 thus far.
I played well in the cash on Monday night till the last hour. I seem to lose my concentration completely though in live cash after 3/4 hours. Going to stick with the live cash games for the next two days till I play the main event on Friday.
When you're away playing these tournaments you usually eat very badly and don't exercise. I am planning to run at least 5k everyday while I'm here in an effort to stay somewhat in shape.
Managed to do it so far. With the IO and San Remo coming up, I want to have a good level of personal fitness. These events are four day slogs and if I get to the business end of things, I want to be as fresh as possible.

Ok, so we're 3 weeks into the Boylepoker / Boards.ie Headsup League and things are beginning to hot up a little (well lukewarm if you're in Serie A!)
With 7 weeks remaining to complete the first phase of matches, some players need to get their finger out and start playing, because it might seem a long time away, but it's really very little time.

I didn't play much online over the weekend as I know I need a little break from the computer and was playing rather shit. I headed into the Fitz on Friday to tackle the Medic (Dave Hall). However, an old enemy called Peter was there (not Peter Murphy btw) and poor Peter got his money in good three times against me and each time I removed him by the roots with some nice dogging.
I ended up winning €2,800. Lost a bit online on Sunday, so won about $7k for a decent week. I'm off to London today for the all GUKPT and plan on a few sides and a bit of grinding live cash as well.

After four weeks without alcohol or tobacco, I decided to push the WSOP preparations a little further by playing a bunch of events in the Aviation Club. I'm not sure if it's working good or bad because on the plus side I was going deep with chips and on the negative side I wasted a lot of time. On the very negative side, Veronique cashed in one of the events I bubbled in, so I had to listen to it all the way home and pay the cab fare.

With my next month dominated by big tournaments, I decided to switch my focus to online tournaments, (GUKPT London, Irish Open and EPT San Remo). I played 6 MTT tournaments on Wednesday, I had a 50% ft rate and a 33% win rate.

I didn't get the blog up on Monday, as a result of a very heavy weekend - an unreal weekend in Galway actually. Poker-wise, there's not much to report.. other than me just winning the tournament and our team finishing the 3rd!

I started the game as all the others, very tight in the early stages, robbing as the blinds rose and the table tightened, (with my early tight reputation, it was quite easy to build my stack mid-way, but only by small raises).

I did my absolute b0llix this week. Lost $17k on Wednesday and a further $7k yesterday, to finish down a nice even $30k for the week. Did all the cash in plo 10/20 and I'm off to Galway soon for the team event, so glad to be getting away from the computer this weekend.

Sorry about the lack of posts, but there hasn't really been much for me to talk about poker-wise of late. I played a few sessions on Boyles a couple of weeks ago, putting on 5k euro to play 5-10 PLO and some HU tourneys. One small winning session was quickly followed by three small losing sessions and I busted the lot.
In my own mind I didn't tilt at all, and I feel I played pretty much as well as I'm capable of, and while I did seem to run badly, I would probably be deluding myself if I just put it down to bad luck.

First off I have to apologise, I promised a strategy post in this blog but I really haven't had the time. It's something that takes time and needs to be done properly. I am taking the train to Galway on Friday so will write it then.
I have been very busy for the last two days. I played about eight hours of poker on Monday and lost $1k for each hour I played - which is a decent hourly rate. Tuesday was more of the same and I quickly found myself down about $12k by about midnight. Ugh... I was now doing $20k for the week.

Well it has been a while since my last blog, the main reason being that I have not been playing too much, and the days I have been playing, I was just about breaking even in short sessions.
I missed most of last week through drink related incidents. I was at the Brucepoker event in Dundalk Sunday week ago and played for 12 hours to finish five spots outside the money, but stayed on til about eight in the morning as it was good fun watching the final table.

I had a pretty sick week last week. Enjoyed a few winning days over the weekend, so I ended up winning just short of $50k for the week. You can't do this in 5/10 10/20 plo, without running very good.

Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post, but with the Multiplier and all the other loudmouths that are now with Boyles it's pretty hard for me to get a word in.
There hasn't been too much to write about really. Since I've been home I've just been working hard on my personal fitness, running and gyming it everyday. I also saw a dietician to try and start eating a bit better.

Poker wise the variance is back in a big way. I'm up over $30k in the last 2 days without doing much right, to be honest. I found the best hand on the river 2 or times 3 in $6/10k multi-way pots (all in on flop) and won all my 40% to 60% flips. I'd probably feel guilty if I had a conscious, but hey there's enough days where it's the opposite.

February must be one of the few months that we didn't have a lucky logo victory, but we came mighty close.

Hanging out with Surinder Sunar is usually good value. He's the most superstitious gambler I've ever met. We were in Dublin airport recently on our way to play the European Open TV event, when he spotted me purchasing nail clippers. This got him very excited as we'd swapped a piece and he explained to me that playing poker with long nails was desperately unlucky. Especially the feet!

The trend of last week which was losing every second day, has continued into this week so far. I lost $5,5k Monday, but got $4,5k back on Tuesday. These are the least swingy 10 days I have ever had in terms of stakes. I haven't run bad or anything and reckon I am playing fairly bad. I heard ppl say poker would be great without variance. B0LLIX, variance is what keeps me sane!

On Monday I was playing mostly STTs again and a few MTTs later in the day. The $30 games were going horrendously bad so I started to mix in a few $20 games at the same time and this helped as I got a few decent results in these. I ended up bubbling in 21st place a 3k gtd tourney, when AQ ran into AA on a Q high flop, not too good as I was hoping for a nice deep result here and first place was just over $1k. I am getting used to these tournaments now and I still feel it's only a matter of time before I score a big result.

I played the Fitz End Of Month last Thursday and had the Multiplier and Big Mick G at my table, so there was a good bit of banter. Whenever I read the Multiplier's blog he's always whinging like a bitch about some bad beat or another, so I was looking forward to sticking a few on him.
This became pretty hard though when he limped into every pot behind my raises and flopped a set. I soon exited the tourney and went down for some cash; this is where I got my first glimpse of this recession thing everyone seems to be in love with.
