I'm over in my favourite place. First up was a £1k NLH event. I ran good, played alright and eventually busted just before the end of Day 1.

I travelled over on the Wednesday for the Barcelona leg of the European Masters of Poker tour.

Things haven't improved on the poker front unfortunately, but I'm not actually feeling as downbeat as I sometimes do about busting out of tournaments.

TV3's Aidan Cooney has teamed up with Boylepoker.com to help raise funds for the worldwide charity, ORBIS International. The well known TV personality has accepted a challenge at this year's IPO tournament, which could see him bag up to €10,000 for his chosen charity!

I didn't play much poker this week for various reasons, although I did attempt to play one evening.

I said before I played the World Open, that it was going to be the toughest table that I had ever played at, and having played it I think it was definitely close but I actually feel like I acquitted myself fairly well against them. These TV events used to be complete crapshoots, but now they give you three times as many chips and there's actually a good bit more play in them.

The password for this week's Boylepokerblog.com freeroll at 8pm tonight is satwars. Best of luck!

Well I'm back from my little Vilamoura/Cannes/Marakech trip. Despite some early success in Vilamoura, that was to be the highlight.

It's pretty safe to say my form has hit an all time low. It's September now, and I'd estimate that I've played 20-25 tournaments this year with only two small cashes, both of which came in two of the smallest events that I've played.

I came down with a bad cold on Wednesday. By Thursday, day one of the tournament, I was running a high temperature and was truly miserable.

Online poker players can still avail of two great Boylepoker.com International Poker Open early registration promotions - but for a limited time only.

All in all, it's been very quiet since I got back from Vegas. My bankroll has depleted from the small amount I had managed to build up in Vegas and the few months before. Happy to say though that poker hasn't been the culprit.

They say you aren't a great champion until you retain the title, so I was delighted when for the second time I took down Boylepoker's $500 'High Roller' tournament for $13,200.

Connie runs a €250 event in the Cue Club, Killarney every year and I've attended the tournament since 2006. It's always a lovely weekend, with a really good vibe in the club.

Part two of my trip took me to Cannes, where I played the Partouche Poker €8,500 Main Event.

I lost close to a quarter of my stack in that hand, and shortly afterwards I lost another quarter. I raised on the button with Ts8s, was called by both blinds, and the flop came AK3 with two spades. Some people might wonder why I would decide to check this flop, as it seems a great opportunity to represent the ace and pick up the pot, with a flush draw to fall back on if someone calls. There's certainly nothing wrong with betting here, but instead I chose to check for a few different reasons.

After Cork, I headed up to Donegal for the weekend with Nicky, Paul Spillane and Julian Gardner, for a golfing weekend. It was great fun with a lot of money changing hands but ultimately no one ended up winning or losing much, which is about the best I can hope for against these guys really. Unfortunately, the weekend still turned out to be pretty expensive for me.

Well leg one of my three part tour is over. A nice week is a fair way to describe it. I really liked Vilamoura last time I was here and it was even nicer in the summer.

The Friday after my last blog was one of the worst days of my life, well on paper anyway. I had my worst day of poker ever, dropping about $17k.
