Well I arrived in Vegas on Monday 15th late at night. I'm staying at Extended Stay America Apartments, which are a barely a five minute walk from The Rio. For anyone coming to Vegas for the WSOP I'd really recommend this hotel.
They're pretty cheap ($50 a night I think) and I'm really liking the fact that I don't have to walk through a depressing casino floor to get to/from my room. At the moment I'm on my own - which I'm kind of liking, but I think John might be crashing in with me indefinitely tomorrow because Big Mick G got here yesterday and I think he's going to take John's bed. To be fair with a name like 'Big Mick G', you can't be expected to be going around sleeping on couches for too long now can you!
With regards to poker, I lost a bit online yesterday and then played the $5k PLO event today. I did myself (and Boylepoker) proud, lasting all of 80 minutes. This was a pretty impressive I thought, considering it was a triple-chance tournament. What happened was I'd taken a bit of a hit early on then this very wild player to my right took both of his re-buys. I thought I'd take mine too since I was already bit low and also in case I got into a pot with him. Anyway in the second level (100-200), the hand is folded to me on the button and I make it 500 with Qc8c5h7h, the maniac re-raises to 1800 and I call. It comes KQQ, he bets and I call. 5 turn he bets again and I stick him in, just on the off chance he doesn't have KK, but of course he does. That was a 22k pot- leaving me with 4k ish.
A short time later I get 910JQ single suited and limp UTG for 200, this goose that's determined to ruin my WSOP makes it 900, I call. Comes Q67 and I lead in for pot which is nearly all my stack (I've out-flopped bare AA by the way), he sticks the rest in with AAxx and he gets the hold in.
I don't think I played my best 80 minutes of poker, but didn't do much wrong and took a few shots to get a stack together that didn't work out. Anyway, after that I went back to the apartment ate a good bit of comfort food, then played a few hours online. I did well enough and grinded my $5k buy-in back putting me level for the day - justice!
Although then I decided to log a few more hours in after dinner live. I played in a lively $5-10-25 PLO game in The Rio and proceeded to lose $2k, leaving me down $2k for the day. An eventful day of poker, but I guess losing $2k isn't the worst considering I played the WSOP event for $5k.
Anyway, I'll probably take it bit easier tomorrow, maybe just log a few hours in online and also get some exercise in. That's all for now; next stop $10k PLO event on Saturday!
