93rd minute misery

20 June 2010 | Category: by: Marty Smyth

Just arrived in Vegas after a 30 hour trip from the Cook Islands and got stuck straight into the action with one of the 1K NLH crapshoot events.

You have to run fairly good in these things and you don't really have enough chips to get away from big hands, so I wasn't too disappointed when I ran AK into KK and busted a few hours into it.

It was actually a nice little warm-up and even though I only lasted four hours or so, I'm pretty happy with how I played. Next up for me is the 1500 NL shoot-out event, which I'm really looking forward to. I haven't played one of these before but I've got a lot of experience of this format from the Poker Million etc, so I'm hopeful I can give a good account of myself.

While I'm here I'm going to be updating my tournament exploits via Twitter. These will appear on the Boylepoker homepage along with other 'tweets' from the Boylepoker team, and also on my own website - martysmyth.net, which I've eventually got around to setting up. It's not quite finished yet, and I'll be adding to it once I get home and get a few lessons about how to maintain it.

I've been using all my free time over the last week or so to punt furiously on the World Cup with varying success. It's been a pretty high variance campaign for me so far, but I'm currently ahead overall despite having 3 complete disasters. The 93rd minute New Zealand goal was particularly sickening, and how New Zealand were only one goal down by that stage was pretty baffling too. I haven't got to watch as many games as I'd have liked because of the time difference, and Vegas isn't much better than where I've just come from in that respect, but I'll at least be making an effort to get up early for the two later games.

I'm getting stuck into Portugal to beat N Korea and Spain against Honduras on a few different handicap/spread markets. I usually like taking on the favourites in these types of games, but I can't really see any upsets here. Chile were shooting in against Honduras for most of the first game and if Spain can finish better than Chile, then they could run riot. Here's hoping...

ah well 2 outta 3 ant bad, could be worse just think of the guy who put on 40000(NZ$)on slovakia @ 102 in the 86th min of the new zealand v slovakia match, when slovakia were one up to pick up a handy 800 bucks, only for the kiwis to score THAT GOAL to grab a draw, reckon he's a fair sick puppy at the mo!the texts are flying around and the best one i got so far was"last week the england team had a day off so they could spend some time with their wives and girlfriends, the tabloid press called it wag day...john terry called it christmas" boomm boomm

spain to win 4-o was 15/1. jaysus when i seen them score so early in da nd half i was like chi ching. the germans wil stil be there or there abouts.

agree regarding the germans, but i won't touch the england game... i think backing 0-0 in the uruguay-mexico game is more attractive than just backing the draw at the current prices.

thought there was a potentially big upside to portugal on the spreads but never considered it could have been that good :) similar stuff from spain would be nice

a draw between mexico v uruguay will see both teams to the 2nd round, sending france (hehe:)) home and the hosts to the rail, also germany look a great bet v ghana who have a very young defence, even a ten man ozzy team almost scored a few times,so god only knows what the german team will do,this is also a game germany have to win.reckon england will click v slovenia as well, they have to get a result here, and the direct ball to the "lanky robot"might just do it for them
