It seems like every time I write a blog these days, it starts with something along the lines of 'sorry about the lack of posts', but the only poker I've really played since the Irish Open has been a couple of online MTTs.
I knew I was going to be taking it fairly easy between the IO and Vegas because I was getting married and going on honeymoon, but I hadn't really planned to have a near total break from poker for what will be about nine weeks.
I haven't been running particularly badly this year, and it wasn't like I felt I needed a break but I still think this time off has done me a lot of good. I've tried to take breaks from poker before when I've been running badly, but usually they last for a few days, until I find myself sitting at home with nothing else to do and lash some euros into my Boyles account. This time it hasn't been a struggle at all to pass the time. For the first few weeks around the wedding I was obviously fairly busy, and for the last few weeks with the good weather, I've been playing more golf than Tiger Woods. It's also helped that I've been getting a steady wage from O'Shea's rugby tips.
I'm off on honeymoon today for a few weeks, going to Malaysia, Australia and the Cook Islands. Then we're flying directly to Vegas for the WSOP. I'm really looking forward to playing in Vegas this year, more so than I have been before. I'm scheduled to play about 7 or 8 tournaments - the 5k and 10k PLOs, and the 10k main event, along with a few small NL tourneys (I've decided to steer away from medium buy in NLH events, as I feel these are the toughest fields).
I've got pretty high hopes that it'll be a good year for the Irish, with a few of the lads in great form. I don't think a bracelet for one of us is out of the question and I'll be surprised if we don't manage a few final tables between us. Hopefully I can get a couple of cashes or a nice deep run in one of them myself.
I don't normally set targets for myself, but I'm going to this year. When we play golf in Vegas we play for %s of our tournament action, so by the time the main event starts, I want to have won at least 3% of Nicky, Julian, and John O'Shea (in the main event), and at least 50% of Spillane in whatever small buy-in event in Binion's that he still afford to play after three weeks in Vegas!

it's amazing the feelings of extreme hetred that the mention of that pool game can still bring up one year later... even when i'm sitting nicely relaxed on a tropical beach in malaysia.
hooneymoon ruined.
