Well it is the start of the Party Poker European Open V and the "Lucky Logo" has already struck gold - Andy Ward and Marc Goodwin are both through to the semi-finals.
It is heat number nine and it's my turn to don the Boyle badge, I am hoping it will bring me the same amount of luck as its predecessors Doh! Wrong already, I look at the draw and see Padraig is in my heat, jeez he is not only donning the logo but he is Irish too, the world is against me.
The draw for my heat is seat 1 Padraig, 2 Pretty Boy, 3 Paul Marrow, 4 Me, 5 Vicki Coren and 6 Surinder.
I feel good about the draw, it's level one I am just getting comfortable in my chair and having a chat with Vicki and crash bang wallop! I look around Surinder has done a big stack and Padraig is out getting it in with an open ended straight flush draw, both casualties of the complete nutter to my right Paul Marrow.
I am completely card dead for the first two levels and I mean dead even by my standards (where was the "logo luck" when I needed it). We break and I have 73k going into the 3-6 level. I know I must get chips this level to have a chance of winning the heat.
I figured that if I am in the blinds and we get raised say 18k, I will RR with any two to 38k. Then if I get RR all in and I have crap I can pass and have, one more shot. There is also a good chance of a pass by the raiser because of not moving my whole stack in: it can look stronger to a weak-ish raise. This would give me 90k if all goes well and I can relax a bit for the rest of the level. This was my plan.
Well, it started to take shape, Paul Marrow raised to 13k and I RR to 36k, he tanked a little and called. I was holding J4 (oh dear) flop 3-5-6 rainbow, the best I could hope for now I can push with a bit of confidence. Paul calls and shows K 10 all rainbow blank on the turn and then the Lucky Logo struck 7 on the river making me the straight - yes! So know I have 152k, perfect, I can now go back to sleep and wait for some cards.
Paul Marrow continues bossing the table; bluffing, calling, check raising, re-raising and leading out to the raiser after the flop it seemed he wanted to display every trait. He called Vicki's all in with J8 and knocked her out. He beat Pretty Boy's AA with 36, calling a 34k pre-flop raise the flop is Q38. Pretty boy check raises all in and Paul makes the call, you know it, 6 on the river and that was the end of Pretty Boy Martin and I am heads up with the maniac, it was horrible.
Our chips were 171k to 429k. The badge is finally doing the biz.
After a cagy half hour, I get it to 444k to 156k in my favour after my RR all in with KJ against A5 and hitting a Jack. I think, fantastic I have momentum and chips I am going to pinch the next two blinds and I'm home and hosed.
I am going to move all in on my button the next hand with any two. I figure I am two button raises from victory, I look down at 10 6 and don't really fancy it now but hey ho stick with the plan. I move all in and Paul insta calls me with J8 - oh dear! The flop is AA2 - 6 on the turn, yes! Then the dreaded J on the river. We are now even in chips and I get it all in with Q9 Paul insta calls again with A3 and hits the flop. Paul Marrow AKA The Diceman is through and I wish him all the best in the semis, but I am back again donning the "Lucky Logo" once more in the Turbo with a back door chance of making the semis.
I will post some more after the turbo heat and if I don't make it through, I can share some of the key hands in the final hopefully from Boyle's other two runners as I will be joining Jessie in the box.

lucky badge my arse!
