Well, finished up 6th, shoved the old 63 off - pretty standard stuff. I was a little disappointed after the exit but by no means gutted.
The whole thing was such an experience. When I fted the WSOP event in 2008, I ran like god but this wasn't the case this time round. I was all-in and called only three times in the tournament; 55 v AQ, AA v QQ on J hi board on the turn and my exit.
The seven days of the tournament were such a buzz. I remember Chub telling me about this event about 4/5 years ago, when poker was just starting to become serious for us. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that five years later I would not only play it but make the final table of it. Took a while today to pause and reflect on my poker career thus far, from playing free rolls four and a half years ago, to $25k buy-in events.
If anybody was to ask me what has been the key to success, I would have to say it's the group of poker friends I have around me. Have to give big thanks to Chub, Rees, Od and Butt. These four guys have taught me so much and look forward to learning more off them. Were a competitive bunch and push each other hard but are always there to pick each other up when someone falls off the horse.
Special thanks also go to Noel Hayes and Paul Spillane. Noel is a good friend and when I gave up the day job, he was very helpful giving me information about the poker world and his help since then has certainly played a role in my success.
Paul and the whole Boylepoker team have been great to me. Paul has been around the block a few times when it comes to poker and has been a wealth of good advice.
While finishing 6th in this WPT is a fantastic achievement and one I'm very proud of, it was never my Everest.
I have a burning desire to win a WSOP bracelet and it burns even harder after this result. I went and had a good night on Saturday. Celebrated the result but it's behind me now. Have the $5k WSOP circuit event tomorrow in Caesars. I then return home for three weeks to play an online festival which will be similar to a lot of the events I will play at the WSOP, so it's a really good trial run.
When I set out at the start of April I said it was going to be the most intense three and a half months of my poker career to date, with over 50 decent buy-in tournaments planned, costing in the region $180k.
I've played seven so far and achieved what I would of consider par for the course, with $225k in cashes for all 50 after 7 but then again I didn't set out to shoot a par round, I want to shoot a course record!
So excited about Vegas because I know that this year there will be a couple of ft's for the Irish and strong possibilities of bracelets. Jesse May was asking me on the Poker Show about the strong crop of young Irish players and whether I think this will be the year we finally deliver. I honestly can't see how it won't be, as everyone seems to be playing close to there A game at the moment and are all super motivated for the upcoming series.
Last week was my best sports betting week ever! I won about $15k from 5/5 winning rugby bets. I hope people did well out of the two bets I put up. Got two in the pipeline for this weekend, if they materialize I'll put them up on Thursday.
Went back to the grind yesterday. Up at ten for the gym and $5k tournament started at 12.
Also, a big shout out to Sean Gregory who scooped big on Boylepoker the other night, winning the Monday night PLO tournament and 2nd in the Highroller, banking a healthy profit for his night's effort. What makes it more impressive is that he satty into both, so it all came from just a $150 outlay. Go on the Weatherman!!!

nice run John
