So Vegas is pretty much over for another year. It's been a little bit disappointing in terms of poker, but not overly so. I played five tournaments in total - the 5k and 10k PLOs, two $1500 events and the 10k main event. I said before I came out that I would be reasonably happy if I had a good run in one of the tournaments and picked up a bit of cash and although that's what happened, I still feel a bit disappointed overall.
If my only cash had come in the 10k PLO or main event then I'd probably have been pretty satisfied, but instead it came in the 5k PLO where I went out just after the bubble for a relatively small amount.
I knew at the start of the year that 2009 was never going to be anywhere near as good for me as 2008 or 2007 had been, and I had very modest expectations, but I still would have expected to have done a bit better than this.
I think I've played 12 or 13 tournaments so far this year and have only managed one small cash, and I'm also losing a little bit online, although I haven't played much. I suppose the good news is that we're only half way through the year and I have another six months to put things right.
I busted out of the main event on day 3 and while I'm not too disappointed about how I played, the main event has been pretty bad for me overall. I'd swapped small percentages with a lot of good players and bought some small shares in a few good players too, only one of them though (Nicky Power), is still going.
As I write he's down to the last 407 players with a shortish stack, but like myself, Nicky's well used to operating with a short stack and he won't give the chips away easily; it would be no surprise at all if he's still there in a couple of days time. Having said that, with the quantity and quality of the players I'd swapped with I really expected to at least have interests in a few guys inside the money if I wasn't there myself.
Tomorrow, I'll go into more detail on my main event play.
