Howling like an Indian

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I've gotten fed up with slaving away for hours on end multi-tabling small cash games and sit and go's, and have had a bit of a break from internet poker over the last week and a half.

I've also played a few small live tournaments, which have been enjoyable enough but pretty unsuccessful.

I called Fintan the day before the PLO tournament in the Eglington to find out what sort of numbers they were expecting, as I didn't really want to drive down for a single table satellite.

Fintan assured me that they'd have at least 3 tables and probably between 30-40 runners, which I took as meaning at least 2 tables and around 20-30 runners, but I fancied playing a bit of live poker so I drove down anyway.

They got 22 runners in the end and I managed to finish 18th, which is obviously quite bad, but I take some comfort in the fact that I managed to out-last both Dave Callaghan and John O'Shea, two of the best PLO players in the country, who busted 1st and 3rd respectively.

22 was a pretty disappointing turn out, but as John said in his blog, it's a new tournament. I hope they give it another go next year as I'd like to see more PLO tournaments on offer.

The three of us played a farcical 9 holes of golf on Galway Golf club the next day. I'm really not sure how we didn't get asked to leave the course, well at least how O'Shea didn't get asked to leave the course.

Golfers can a pretty humourless bunch and are usually pretty strict about protocol and etiquette on the course. I can't imagine what they made of O'Shea running down the fairway beating his mouth and howling like an Indian, and pretending to shoot us with his club, but I'd say it's probably a good idea if we play a different course next time we're in the area.
