Well, I crashed out of the main event of the WSOP on Day 1 after seven hours or so. Played pretty average poker and ran really bad. In one way, I was annoyed to be out but I was relieved that this run of tournaments is over. I am truly sick of poker after the ECOOP and WSOP series. Came out of this 40 day marathon about $70k in front so even do I feel a bit shit now, I have to remind myself it was a reasonable success.
The first six months of the year have seen me put in a lot of hours and complete two out of three goals I set myself for the year. They were:
- Make $300k for the year. Done that and a bit more already.
- Improve my PLO game. I think by winning the ECOOP again and cashing in a WSOP PLO Hi Lo event I have a pretty sharp game now.
- Make a final table of a major event. Failed so far. Went close two/three times but alas I still haven't achieved this one.
Where to now? Well I am going to play very little poker in the coming month. I am going to chill out and recharge my batteries. I am in Vegas for another week and might play a small bit of cash, but for the most part, I am going to be on the warpath and will probably be seen most mornings dancing in the foundations of Paris or Caesars Palace.
After Vegas, I'm off to Cali for a few days before I meet up with my normie mates for a three week bender. We're hitting Chicago for 12 days, back to Vegas for four nights and finally five nights in San Diego before I return home on August 8. Looking forward to spending some time with people whose favourite pass time isn't check raising people on dry boards.
Last year was similar to this one; I had an incredible opening six months to the year achieving all the goals I set for myself for the 12-month period. However, the last six were a disaster; I lost focus, did a chunk back and wouldn't have achieved my financial goals for the year unless I didn't have a massive December.
I have learned my lesson and have set new goals for the final five months of the year (won't be playing July). I have taken most of my roll out of poker as I plan to buy a house in the near future so I think this will really help me focus as money will be tight. New goals for remainder of 2009:
- Make $200k profit.
- Learn seven card stud games stud hi, razz and stud hi lo.
- Get on the final table at a major event.
Thanks for reading the blogs so far, certainly helps me to focus, won't be posting too much/at all on my month off.
Oh, the 2009 Boylepoker IPO has been announced. It's a great tournament for bank rolls of all............................ meh. Boyle's don't pay me enough to suck them off that bad, but any one interested should check it out. If you're a sicko for value, I think there's loads of added stuff.

Well played John. Hope you enjoy the break.
$70k for 40 days and 40 nights, not bad at all.
