Well it's the New Year and as always it's a bit of a review type time in life.
Most people make unrealistic life goals and even more outrageous poker goals, so I guess I'm going to be fairly conservative about my goals - play as much poker as I can while still enjoying my life.
Pretty simple really and it's basically what I've been doing for the last four years!
I was planning on going to Australia for the Aussie Millions, but a few have pulled out so it doesn't look like it anymore. I'm now thinking of a trip to the states for a WPT or maybe an EPT in France. I've got a hunger to play a decent live tourney so I guess I'll get to one of these.
In my blog a few weeks ago I talked about how Marc Reilly's favourite game when he was a kid was Hungry Hungry Hippos. He was defending how it's quite a skillful game while we were laughing uncontrollably.
Ironically, I was on the phone to my brother on Xmas Day and he was playing with his young daughter. He said he was in a grueling battle of wits over a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos with his three year old.
He was discussing how it was four handed, so each of them had two hippos. His daughter was going for the straight-out 'mash the pot button' tactic. He had one hand doing this while the other was to quote the man, a 'snake in the grass', which would timely nip in and out, and often sit there waiting for several games before pouncing. I was in stitches as he explained his tactics anyway.
I had another funny convo with Rees a couple of days ago. We were talking about a mate who had been playing a bit of poker. We'd been discussing how he has all the credentials to make a great player but never quite materialized.
We then pointed out that he's just not quite sick enough. The funny part was how we just dismissed it and moved on to the fact he'll probably be very successful in life.
It's true though, anyone who gets anywhere in this game has to have a decent level of degeneracy.
Alright, last thing to say is Happy New Year and good luck with those ambitious goals if you've set them!
