Heads Up League - Serie A

11 August 2009 | Category: by: Tony Flushdraw

After 13 long games, the winner of the Boylepoker Heads-Up Serie A league is Rob "Norwich Fan Rob" Taylor. Rob impressed everyone on his way to the title tasting defeat just once, at the hands of debutant BitToad. Rob collected a cheque for $3,949 which he put to good use freerolling a couple of games in Vegas while preparing for the Main Event.

Rob beat off some stiff competition and finished ahead of [nicK] and Daithio who finished second and third collecting $2,235 and $1,266 respectively. The man who propped up Serie A was the talented Irishman John "dagunman" O Shea. I'm sure John isn't too disappointed because he managed to regain his ECOOP Omaha Hi/Lo title and pocketed a lovely five figure sum in the process. Not too sure if we'll see John on the scene again though, as he threatened to retire if Rob beat him.....prop bets ftw!

Speaking to Rob, he said "Yeah John pulled out before we got a chance to play. He knew he had too much to lose so decided not to play rather than get his ass handed to him on a plate." Rob added, "The standard of the league this year was incredibly tough. Daithio gave me a really good game and that could have gone either way, so I was really please to get the win as it set me up and helped me take the league down."

When asked how he prepared for the series, Rob replied "Well I played a lot of heads up leading up to it so I continued to ride the wave. I played my normal game and was able to adapt to other players'. I really enjoyed the games. I'd just like to thank Tony Flushdraw and Boylepoker for the effort put into organising and keeping the league running well. I'll be back next year to defend my title!"

I have to echo what Rob has said. When you see players like new Boards mod phantom_lord, doke and smoothcall not making the money, it shows how high the standard of the league was. One other player to finish in mid table obscurity was Marty Smyth. Marty might have won the $10k WSOP Omaha bracelet, Irish Open, Partypoker World Open and Ladbrokes Million, but he couldn't overcome the best Boards had to offer.

Marty suffered six defeats along the way and had some ding-dong battles thrown in. It's fantastic for Boylepoker and Boards to get someone of the calibre of Marty Smyth involved in this league and we'd love to see him back again next year.
