HU Battles, Olympics and the NAPT

Well, I've had a nightmare down-swing over the last week or two, the last week in particular. I ran so badly, it seemed like I was dealt the second best hand for the whole week.

I didn't play great towards the end, called it off a bit too much and they seemed to have it every time. You just have to accept you're not going to play your best all the time, so I took a few days off and came back this week. I felt I'd played really well, despite little gains.

Not quite playing your best reminds me of a story in the Bahamas. I'd just got knocked out of a tourney for bet-shipping 10s into the pointy ones. So I wandered over to John to discuss how I'd probably had a little too many blinds to make it the correct move.

While this was going on, some guy shipped 15ish Bigs and the guy sitting right beside John, who was on the button called. He proudly turned over the Queen Nine sooooty (puppy feet to be fair). John then turned to me and said, "Like as much as we'll make mistakes, you're never gonna do that shit. For fuck-sake, he hasn't played a hand in an hour then gets busy with Q9." Fully in ear shot of your man, who wasn't too bothered as he was busy flopping full houses.

Last night I had the sickest 1020 PLO HU battle I've ever had! Played for about five hours vs. a Norwegian Viking. I assume he wasn't an actual Viking but he probably played like a Viking would have, as he certainly wasn't too fond of the fold button. Before last night, I'd only played a couple pots over 10k, with my biggest being 12k - which I lost. I broke my record for the biggest pot I'd won, when I scooped a nice 12.5k pot.

Unfortunately, I then went on and broke my biggest losing pot record too, when he scooped the 13.5k pot. I also lost the other two 10k plus pots we played. So it's safe to say I ran like shit in the big pots. Despite this I got out even in the match due to countless presents in smaller pots. Anyway, it was an exciting night's potting and got the blood flowing again as I'd sort of got a bit fed up with it lately.

This change of mood was great because I'm currently in Vancouver airport, waiting to go to Vegas for the NAPT in the Venetian. I must be the only person from Vancouver who's going on a holiday. The Winter Olympics are on, and I must say it's pretty unbelievable. I've never seen a big city buzzing so much, everywhere you go, anytime of the day it's just people in red jerseys with flags etc. Loads of streets downtown are closed off and there are big screens everywhere with an incredible atmosphere.

So I've obviously jumped on the bandwagon, got the Canada t-shirt and watching although weird, generally entertaining sports. Didn't think I was quite involved enough though, so I've called to my degenerate side and lumped on favourites Canada in the hockey. Could be a Canada v Russia final on the last day of the games, which would be epic!

Here's a quick final story to show how bad I'm running. Was just going through security and this pretty female security guard gives me the option of a pat down search or this fancy new air box thing. Intrigued as I was by the new technology, I decided on the pat down from the pretty lady or so I thought. She then escorted me quickly to a rather burly man, who proceeded to grope me for the next five minutes! FML
