Just got back on the mainland after being on an island off the coast of Australia for most of last week. It's amazing how much you can miss in just four days of being without internet and mobile phone coverage.
I came off the island to find out Benitez had left Liverpool, a taxi driver had killed 12 people in Cumbria, Praz Bansi had won another WSOP bracelet, Neil Channing was at the final table of the 5k short-handed NLH, and I had about 40 new emails. Quite a lot to take in really.
I briefly got very excited the next day when Karen texted me as I was out playing golf, to tell me Neil was heads up with the chip-lead. 20 minutes later as I was making my way home, having run out of balls on the 15th hole, I got another text to tell me he lost. Apparently I'd misread her first text and thought that his opponent had 700k instead of 7 million.
The golf course I played was quite nice, and despite playing terribly it was still a nice way to spend a morning. There was an abundance of local wildlife on display and some of the holes had kangaroos sunning themselves on the fairways. Perhaps they knew this was the safest place to be when I was teeing off.
Seeing guys that I know doing well over there and reading O'Shea's blogs has really got me excited about Vegas. I've got a good idea of what tournaments I'm going to play. At the minute I'm planning on playing eight tournaments, although this might not be possible if I make day two or three in some events. This is what I have in mind so far:
19th June, 1k NLH
21st June, 1.5k NLH shootout
23rd June, 1.5k NLH
25th June, 1.5 NLH
26th June, 1k NLH
28th June 5k PLO
1st July, 10k PLO
5th July, 10k NLH main event
This will be more tournaments than I've played at the WSOP before, but in past years I've arrived at the WSOP somewhat bored with poker, or pissed-off because I've been running badly online.
This year I haven't played in about two months and I'm absolutely chomping at the bit. Having said that, I know it'll only take a few early exits or badly played hands to dampen my spirits a bit, but at least I'll be starting off in a great frame of mind.
My main concern with my tournament schedule is that it's not going to leave much time for golf over the WSOP, but that might not be a bad thing since Paul Spillane has quit work to focus on golf, and Nicky and Julian are playing every day too.
In contrast, I'll be entering Vegas having played one round (that I didn't even get to finish because I lost so many balls) in the previous month. I hope that this will be factored into the handicaps, but I doubt it.
Nicky's already addressed Paul Spillane's departure from Boylepoker in his latest blog, and I'd just like to echo what he's already said. Paul's been great for Boyles and Irish poker in general, and I'm sure he'll be just as successful wherever he goes next. I've had a great time 'working' with him over the last couple of years and I consider him to be a very good friend outside of the office too.

Good Luck Marty..
A wee bracelet would be a nice wedding gift
