My WSOP picks

27 May 2010 | Category: by: Andy Ward

I agree with Nicky Power that 99% of people will have Phil Ivey in their fantasy 5 for this year's WSOP. That's why I'm leaving him out :)

Ivey's the best, but nobody is guaranteed a good series. If Ivey runs bad, I have an extra pick on everyone. Of course, if he runs good, I'm screwed but a miss is as good as a mile.

I've decided to go for some players you might not be so familiar with. Many of them are better known for their online play, but these guys are very good, very keen and ready to spin up a lot of money this summer.

They are also all American. Many of them live in Vegas. I think this is a massive advantage. Many of the European players treat the WSOP as a holiday, partying and living out of a hotel room. That's fine but it means I'm not betting on them :)

1) Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo: Very sharp player, good at HORSE and Mixed Games, and motivated to play with a string of prop bets.

2) Steve "gboro780" Gross: Ranked the #1 online tournament player in the world, and with good reason. Sick results online and rated as high as anyone by online pros.

3) Jason Mercier: Well alright, here's one you've heard of. Great player, and full of confidence through running hotter than the sun over the last year.

4) Scott "mastr" Seiver: I played with Scott in the ME last year and was impressed, plus he's had some great live results this year.

5) Terrence Chan: World-class limit HE player who won both WCOOP limit tournaments on the same night last year. Also a very good at NL and other games.

So there you go! I reckon I'll probably finish either first or (more likely) last, but that's the way I roll...
