Facing into my 5th year as a serious poker player. I ended the first three on the biggest upswings I've ever had, but this year November and December represent my biggest downswing so far.
I think I've lost in the region of $125k in poker, but managed to win some back in sports betting. It's not outrageous given the stakes but I just played so bad. I've never been one to dwell on the past, so lessons have been learned and now here's my goals for 2010.
It is a list of targets that will hopefully all combine to make 2010 a successful year.
1. Make $320k in 2010.
Instead of trying to do it over a 12 month period, I'm going to break the year into four 3 months periods, where I want to make $80k in each period. The whole point of breaking the year up is to keep focused in the short term. There were a few times last year when I completely lost my focus.
2. Take two full weeks away from poker in every 3 month period.
Last year I played too much and when I did take a break after 6 months, which lasted a month, it was too long. Hopefully this will keep me fresher.
**3. Make 10 live cashes with a combined value of over $100k. **
Pretty petty goal but I played more live this year and really enjoyed it. I'm planning on playing more in 2010 - plus I kind of feel that this would be a reasonable return for my sponsors.
4. Improve my razz game.
5. Run between 25-50km a week.
When I stop working out I seem to play a lot worse. I also tend to feel a lot worse about myself and when you're running bad (not physically, poker wise) it's easy to get a bit depressed and stay in bed all day. Hope this will keep me more firmly attached to the tracks, which I tend to come off from time to time.
In New York airport hotel at the moment, as I wait for a connection to the Bahamas in about eight hours. The trip has been going quite bad so far, with loads of little things going wrong. Like being regged for day 1a, after asking for 1b, as I won't be there for 1a. Thankfully I just got that sorted.
Kind of in at the deep end with a $10,500 tourney, which will be the first bit of poker I play in 2010. Not too hopeful for the tournament, given my recent form and would not play it unless I was compelled to - but you got to do, what you got do.
Wish every one a great year at the tables (well I don't really cause pokers a zero sum game and if you pricks are getting it, there's less chance I will). Well, I have talked the talk with my plans, now lets see can I walk the walk.
Again, I will try keep the blog updated three times a week.
