Reesy on Tour

10 February 2009 | Category: by: Rory Rees Brennan

Manila is bit more like Bangkok, except not as polluted and just milder in general, but it was much poorer and less developed than I had expected. Conversely though, our hotel (The Dusit Thani) was pretty solid. Vesty, John and I enjoyed probably the best buffet I've ever had. There was a lovely Italian (yes restaurant), a very good gym, nice rooms and sickeningly polite staff - they actually made me feel bad, they're so polite and nice! So basically if you're in Manila, stay there.

The tournament was also crazy value. We all know the Asians like to mix it up and they didn't disappoint. I couldn't get going at all; basically you needed hands because these guys were calling/ raising you down every hand and I just kept getting pipped by better hands. Unfortunately, there were no real interest spots to speak of.

John had a huge stack nearing the money, but as we all know he doesn't like to slow down! He ended up losing a good few races and was unlucky to bubble. The side events were all a bit small, so I wasn't really bothered with them. I did however, play a $200 PLO side, because there was $5k added and only around 40 runners. I actually wanted the trophy more than anything.

In a re-raised pot some sicko ended up killing me with 2346 vs my AKJ4 on a 235 flop. I was so sick, as I had raised, someone shoved and he just called the shove from the small-blind. That hurt because I really thought I was winning that. Anyway we had some pretty hilarious nights out there and because of the value in the tournament, there's a chance I'll be back next year, who knows!

I'm now in Koh Samui, Thailand with John, relaxing after all the stress of playing four tourneys in four weeks. We're staying in a really cool place here, which is €70 a night between us- which is like super super balla expensive out here (http://www.bluelagoonhotel.com). Also the wireless in the room is very solid surprisingly and we've both been logging in good hours online. Since I have been away I've just been killing online (5/10 and 10/20 plo) games. I'm not going to post figures, because I'm just not ready to share that stuff with you guys as yet and also I just don't want people knowing how well or badly I'm doing!

We've been grinding a lot since we've been here, but that's been mainly in the evenings. To be fair we went jet-skiing one day and then went on a Quad biking tour adventure another day. Apart from that we just been chilling at the pool usually, but I think we're going to a Cobra and Crocodile show in a couple of hours, which might be fun! On Wednesday we're moving onto Koh Phi Phi, which is even more relaxed than here, but it's really nice and I think I'm going to do some scuba-diving there. We're there for a week, then it's home on the 19th of February. I'm looking forward to getting home, to see family and friends; I never like being away for too long.

I've also decided that from Monday 23rd I'm going on a complete health-trip. I've decided to get super-fit and eat really well; just because I want to for myself and also for the tennis season, which is on the horizon. I've always been reasonably committed to keeping fit, but will really make the effort with my diet and exercise. I saw a personal trainer before I went away and he was pretty helpful, so I'm definitely going to see him again when I return. I was thinking this could be something interesting to follow on the blog, but you guys probably couldn't care less! If you do care or have any interest, let me know.

That's about it for now, thanks for reading guys,

Reesy
