I've been scooping hard all week, unfortunately it's not been of the alcoholic variety but of the Pokerstars Spring Championship variety.
To translate for the more 'normal' readers - basically Pokerstars have a shit load of tourneys on at the moment. I've been giving a good few of them a spin with zero success. There's small, medium and high tournament buy-ins on everyday. I've only played the bigger PLO ones and have got nowhere really, except for a bubble in the NLH Heads Up which was the furthest I've reached in the mediums unfortunately.
I haven't done a blog in a while, mainly because I haven't had too much to write about. Generally I've just been running bad and nobody wants to read about someone moaning about beats. Thankfully though, I've put in a few winning cash sessions and I'm getting out of the worst downswing of my life. I pretty much didn't win a pot in April but sure that's the way it goes sometimes. I'm just trying to keep the head up through the pain of it all, which is the hardest part.
Was talking to my mate Reesy about the swings you go through as a poker player/gambler. You can be playing away winning nicely then boom, you get fucked for 30 minutes and loose a small fortune. It's strange because as a normy you could go months without these emotional swings. The tough part about poker is trying not to let the swings affect you, but then the tougher part is making sure it doesn't affect your normal life. No point turning into a robot at the tables if you turn into a robot in real life, but I don't think I'm in any danger of that - sure I still get excited looking for the toy in a cereal box!
Not much else to report. Poker-wise I'm sort of just waiting for Vegas. I've had a good first week and can hopefully put in a good month as the WSOP, as it can be an expensive trip if you run bad. I'm probably going to play something in the range of $40k worth of tourneys, so would be nice to get a good month in case it goes badly down there.
The good news is that I'll be doing some proper scooping this weekend. My mate Ali gets in from Toronto for the summer on Friday and it's my mate Maeve's birthday on Sunday. So it's got the makings of a nice tripler on the sauce!!!

Cheers Noel
