It was a fairly quiet week for me poker-wise after I busted out of the 6-seater: We've had a few nights out, but nothing too messy. We hit a couple of tasty restaurants and went to see Cirque de Soleil's "Love" show at the Mirage. It was very good, although I preferred "KA" which we saw last year at the MGM. This is almost certainly the first time I can say that I've been able to remember coming home from every night out after being in Vegas for two weeks. I'm sure it won't last.
I played the $1,500 NL tournament yesterday with KP, who arrived in Vegas last Thursday after slogging away online for two weeks solid to get a bit of a bankroll together. I went out shortly after the dinner break without ever really having a good stack, finally running my pair of 10s into an opponent's pocket Aces. KP went out just inside the money, again without ever having a good stack. Meanwhile, I had a couple of interests in the Rio's daily $300 tournament. Karen and my two friends from home, Andy and Jim, all decided to play it as they reasoned it would be rude to come all the way to Vegas and not play any poker at all.
Jim had sold me 50% of his action for 50% of the entry fee and Karen had sold me 0% of her action for 100% of the entry fee.
On top of this deal, Jim had went on to swap 33% of his action with Andy and 33% with Karen, which by my calculations left a grand total of minus 16% for himself. That's great if you get knocked out but not so clever if you end up chopping the thing for $9,000, which obviously he did. On his course to victory, he probably had over 20 glasses of Milwaukee's Best lager and was causing much amusement and a fair degree of offence to the rest of the field. My personal highlights were when Jim spilled a full pint over the table as the director announced "Shuffle up and deal" to get the final table underway, then shortly afterwards when the same director gave him a verbal warning for touching the chips of the guy beside him, Jim politely waited for her to finish, then asked her if she would give him a kiss. It was a very funny night and we all came to a reasonable arrangement regarding the percentage swaps.
I have a few options for playing tournaments this week. I'll probably play the $1k rebuy NLH on Wednesday, I'm leaning towards skipping Thursday's $5k 6-seater, and I'll play either the $2k NLH on Friday or the $1,500 NLH on Saturday, then decide whether or not to play the $10k PLO on Sunday...
