Firstly I have to congratulate my good friend Eoghan O'Dea for yet another deep run in a big buy-in online tournament. He finished 5th in the SCOOP $3k event for $156k after winning the ECOOP main event and coming 2nd in the Pokermillion (even though this isn't a tournament and it has a worse structure than a $5 Sit 'n' Go).
Eoghan also cashed in the WCOOP main event this year and has proved to everyone what a great all-rounder he is. I think his style is particularly suited to the bigger buy-in, better structured tournaments and what's also impressive is how few tournaments he plays apart from the larger buy-in ones. Respect!
Anyway my poker has been going steadily enough. I haven't had a losing week in ages. I don't really bother having them, as I find they hurt my overall monthly profit. Basically my advice is stay away from having losing weeks (I allow losing sessions and even days). This could be because if I start winning big, I often lock up and don't play as much or play a bit smaller - because I'm such a nit.
Conversely if I start a week badly, I usually tend to play a lot, especially over the weekend (when in general the games are better) and usually manage to grind it back. This is just a theory of mine, but it makes some sense in my head.
I haven't played as much SCOOP as I thought and pathetically missed Sunday tourn's again due to a hangover, although I have been making a bit more effort to play MTT's recently.
This is because I wanted to get some practice in for the Open and also because Oshy wildly accused me of being a bad tournament player, while we were in the pub in London. This is comical for so many reasons - too many for just one post.
Anyway, my only depth this week has been that I reached the final tabled of a $500 High Roller on Boylepoker, won 6 matches (finishing 44th) in the SCOOP $162 Heads-up event and played 3 $20 180 mans (don't ask why - I don't) and final tabled all three of them. It was pretty disappointing not to have won anything, but maybe one day I'll prove myself.
Apart from that there's some tournament on in City West, which I think I'll play. Heading out there on Thursday evening with 'The Kid' and I'm really looking forward to playing on Friday and to the whole weekend in general. I haven't put in as much live practise as I should, but felt like I was playing well enough in London and I'm feeling confident I can do the Irish Double.
If not, hopefully one of the lads and some the Boylepoker players can run deep in it. Also looking forward to some good online sessions in the hotel room; I like doing that, I think it's because it's a fresh scene and nice rooms and no distractions. Anyway I'm rambling.
Good luck to all in the Irish Open 2009,
Reesy
