So I decided to put off returning to Vancouver for another week or so. There were a number of reasons for this, the main one being I was still hung over on Tuesday night after the IO weekend.
The thought of getting up and a gruesome 20 hours travelling on my 'toblerown' was too much to face. So, with it being pretty much the same price to get a flight to Vegas and then back to Vancouver as going direct, it was a perfect opportunity to tackle Vegas again.
The WPT Bellagio series and the Venetian Deepstack are on, the numbers aren't great with various other tours running elsewhere. PokerStars' plan to take over the world is going nicely for them and they're getting huge fields for their NAPT in Mohegan and the EPT in San Remo. The advantage of this is that although the fields here are small, they are great value as most of the pros are at the other events.
I played the Bellagio $1k PLO re-buy the other day, the standard was a mix of good players and some really bad players, and there was some very entertaining stuff at times. I'll regale you with a couple hands to show some of the carry on.
John was at my table and got a nice present early when he bet
500ish into a pot of
600 with the nuts and re-draws - the guy then throws in
12000 chips to raise. Of course the max bet was
2100 or so, John then repots again. The guy sorta shrugs with a sorta - sure I've got so much out there look and throws in another
20k with the bare flush draw. John's straight held up anyways.
My personal favourite was when a guy who in fairness said he'd never played before and was just giving it a lash was in the big blind. He ends up re-raising preflop with
, the flop came down
one heart, bit of betting and the turn brings another heart and they get it all in. He shows his hand, I assume thinking he has a flush, but sure it didn't matter as another heart duly arrived on the river.
Thinking about playing the $1k rebuy hold'em tournament, a $500 rebuy PLO and maybe the $5k NLH depending on how I'm feeling. Hopefully then a loose night out before I head back for the more sensible Canadian shores.
It's such a mad place Vegas, you sorta get used to the craziness of it, but I had one of those 'Fuck me look at this place' moments this morning. We were on a break sitting out in the sun on a balcony, then the Bellagio fountains start goin off with the fake Eiffel Tower in the background, it really is an impressive place.
Last thing to mention is a well done to Dave 'the butt' Callaghan who came second in the 1k PLO on Sunday. But sure, the greedy fucker isn't happy with that and is, as I write this, in the process of going one better with a nice stack and six left in another one. Hopefully he can take it down.

Nothing but once the toblerone is gone you're back to travelling on your toblerown
