As I mentioned in my previous blog I attended the Bolton leg of the GUKPT. Being a keen online player I decided to enter a £100 side event to test the standard of my live game. I had been out with Marty Wilson the previous night and he kindly offered to stake me (more fool him I reckoned). There were some big names in the tourney including William Van Der Hoffenberger III and John Paul Fitzroy Parker Bowles! I played pretty tight up until the first break and had just below the average stack when we came back.
Within 2 hands from the restart I managed to almost treble my stack with a well timed bluff and a winning race (99 v AJ). I then changed to a tighter style (zzzz) and manage to stay in until the final table. By the final table came I turned into an aggressive beast! I think a mixture of about 15 bottles of becks (alcoholic) and about a dozen cans of red bull may have had something to do with this!
Anyway, boring hand histories aside, at 5.30am I eventually won the tourney and once I sorted out the prize money (we chopped $9500) I made my way to bar with a bottle of champagne for company (the dealer went off to count his tips and 2nd place had work the following day). I managed to outlast even the sickest of slot jockeys and after vowing to hand in my notice and hit the tourney trail I was escorted/poured out of the casino at 6am. It's a lonely life, being a celebrity poker player on the circuit.
As you can imagine I was a picture of health in the taxi on the way to the airport at 8am the following morning but still felt fit enough to go and play in the local Dundalk 100 event to add to my (obviously increasing bankroll).
I arrived at the fairways just in time for the start and felt ready to run riot over the locals. So where did the newly crowned GUKPT side event champ finish you may ask? Well let's just say our champ made it to the last 6 tables .... Of a 68 player tourney!

well played now i know your cashed up the beers are on you at the IPO
