A look back at February..

February must be one of the few months that we didn't have a lucky logo victory, but we came mighty close.

I got a call a few weeks ago informing me that Boyles' players were limited to 4 in the European Open as someone at the sponsors company had the hump with us being too successful :) To put this into context, FullTill (the 2nd biggest online site on the planet) were allowed 8. So we were allowed 4 out of 70 odd and with 3 players left two are them were wearing the badge, Andy Ward (3rd) and Marc Goodwin (2nd). Sadly we didn't get the winner; Marty is in Australia and hasn't been able to bless the latest batch of logos hence the default. A temporary blip, the 'Champ' returns in a couple of weeks and normal service will be resumed (we hope).

The Murphy Multiplier goes from strength to strength. I layed Peter at 4-1 to one of the lads in the office who is crowing already; of course I hope I pay out but there's a long way to go. Peter's blogs are very popular and the best thing is he seems to be inspiring people to have a crack at it, which is brilliant. I must admit I thought one of the customers was larking about when he left a comment saying how it had inspired him to have a crack himself, depositing a €100 building it up by playing sit n go's and then he added that he had been getting on so well he decided to have a go at the jackpot sit 'n' go, which he claimed to have duly won for 35k. You can imagine my surprise, when it turns out he had. Think about how incredible that is. If I was that customer I would be buying Mr Murphy a few shandies at the Irish Open.

iPoker introduced a massive network rake race to try and compete with a competitor which we decided to opt out of. It didn't appear to be well thought out and I guessed not only would one or two rooms manipulate it (which they did), but that it wouldn't be of any benefit to our customers as it would be won by teams of people playing together (which it appears to have been).

Instead we put up our own 'Cash Leaderboard'. $10,000 in total prize money and to try and stop it being abused we only counted points between 7pm-11pm. I wouldn't say its been a great success at this stage, but at least the moneys going to genuine customers and no one can really say its unfair.

www.boards.ie is a very popular forum in Ireland and has a poker section which we all browse over at least once a day. Personally I think its one of the best poker forums as it doesn't affiliate itself with one particular poker site and even though there's censorship, it's liberally moderated so that all types of characters post their opinions on a range of subjects; posters range from intelligent insightful professionals, to just plain deranged lunatic sicko's (there my favourites).

They are holding a heads up league for their posters and we offered to sponsor it, which I'm pleased to say they accepted. The only negative is because we are hosting it on our poker client, none of our team can play in it :(

Some of the Boyle team arrived back from gallivanting over the globe and came to see us. Rory Rees and John O'Shea had been playing in Australia and Asia for the last few weeks and it was good to catch up with them both. We like to embrace all of pokers characters here at Boyles and when we went into partnership with Rory, people said things like "great signing, he's a top fella" and "Bound to win big for ya, he can play a bit that lad".

Upon hearing we had gone into partnership with John, people said things like...actually I can't put them on here, no matter how much I hate censorship. Mr O'Shea is certainly a character that people either love or hate, obv we are in the love camp as we get his sense of humour, but we appreciate it's not for everyone's tastes. Check out his blogs if you haven't already, like Padraig's blog, I know before I read it I'm guaranteed one laugh out loud moment.

Finally our best promo to date went live in February, 'Be our Sponsored Pro' gives anyone the chance to join the team for 3 tournaments. There are nine ways to qualify and my favourite is the one Lisa came up with, stake a pro tournament on March 20th, it's a great idea.

The final will be held in the Jackpot in Dublin. Over the weekend of 27/28/29th March, we will be there sponsoring the event, which means a bit of craic, a few jars and some serious poker! Come join us, it's to raise money for Padraig's favourite charity, the Simon community, which helps those less fortunate than us.

BTW, she has most of it spent for me, decking, holidays, a chunky out of the mortgage. All sensible stuff!
I'm only gonna keep $2k as a bank roll and build again. :)

I just posted on Peter's Blog this morning. after winning the $35k Jackpot I seemed to get into a bit of form. I played the $160 satellite on Saturday night for the $2.5m tourney and qualified. This was all out of my €100 bankroll as i'm still waiting for Jackpot payment(due today I think). After 12 hours of hard work on Sunday night, monday morning I managed to come home in 6th for $100,000!
I played poorly at the final, having a big chip lead at the final 10 but made a couple of silly mistakes. Shattered tired was the main effect!
Looking forward to Boyles snapping me up as their next Pro!
After turning €100 into $135,000 in 10 days doesn't seem to bad!:)

the best story of the past few weeks has definitely been the lad winning $35k. amazing stuff. hope he cashes out most of it though!
