The day had started promisingly. I met Marty and his entourage of Owen, KP and Dave C and were later joined by John and Kat then finally Padraig and Veronique. We went to MonAmi Gabi, a French restaurant at the Paris hotel and tucked into oysters, steaks, cheeses and approximately 34 bottles of wine, (should be fun trying to get that receipt through expenses).
People came and left during the day, including an Editor from a well known poker magazine who came and conducted an interview then took a crack at shooting tequila shots against the Irish, to be fair he held his own. We finally decided to hold a barbeque at the house the chaps are renting, whether it should have taken that much time and wine to decide that is anyone's guess.
During the day I was regaled with stories from the chaps about the party held after Marty's victory and to be honest it sounded more like a scene from a battlefield during World War I.
"You wouldn't believe it Paul, people were being dragged out by their feet and piled up like sandbags; many slept where they stood; there were bodies everywhere".
Padraig said he had never seen anything like it and when an award winning drinker like Padraig makes a comment like this one has to sit up and take notice.
Yesterday I met up with Tim Cullinane, our WSOP main event qualifier. He was pleased to be presented with his prize for being the highest finishing Boylepoker online representative. We went for a drink to discuss Tim's strategy, simple food, early night and lots of water was the agreed plan but I guess it wasn't much of a surprise to receive a text from Tim this morning saying he hadn't been to bed and is about to head to the Rio for day 1, I wish him all the luck in the world. I fear he's going to need it.
I myself am off to the Rio shortly to cheer for Tim and for other friends from the rail. To get there one has to go through this years WSOP lifestyle show which is a shadow of its former self. Two years ago the room in which it was held was nearly as large as the main poker room and was filled with promotions girls, poker merchandising, chimpanzee's (I kid you not) and even more promotions girls. The price of having a stand here must be more or less nothing, I may go and reserve the 2009 Boylepoker stand on my way through, all I need to do is work out a concept for the stand. Maybe I might ask Marty if he wants to go to lunch to discuss ideas!

Reminds me of a party was at back in the late '90's. Except we had dwarfs, 17th century Norman castle, ape monkeys (not chimps) and a bouncy castle...
