In October 2009 Boylepoker.com online poker player Peter Murphy began the Multiplier Challenge x2. His goal was to turn $1,000 into $40,000 in 11 weeks playing poker at the site.
The first Multiplier Challenge in early 2009 saw him successfully turn $100 into $10,000, but the second saw him fall agonisingly short of his target.
"With a week to go I had over $35,000 and was well on target," said a philosophical Murphy, "and then a few things went wrong in the last week. Firstly, I went on a $6,000 downswing in two days and this really set me back. After clawing a few thousand back the next day, I then ended up in bed for a few days and was unable to play."
Murphy is not downhearted though, "Overall I am pretty happy with what I achieved, although if I had run a little better in the last week, I could have easily made it. Even playing a decent amount in the first month or so would have helped as well.
"I am a little disappointed, but I did finish with $30,000 in the account and considering the amount of time I played, I would say it was a decent hourly rate at the tables. So it has to go down as a success for me."
Head of poker at Boylepoker.com, Paul Spillane, said, "We're delighted with Peter's efforts to try and hit his $40,000 target. He came so close, but the $30,000 he made in the process will surely ease the pain."
