Didn't quite get there

Well the deadline has passed for completion of my challenge and I didn't quite get there, which I am a little disappointed with.

I did finish with $30k in the account and considering the amount of time I played, I would say it was a decent hourly rate at the tables. In that respect, it has to go down as a success for me.

With a week to go I had over $35k and was well on target, then a few things went wrong in the last week. Firstly, I went on a $6k downswing in two days and this really set me back. After clawing a few k back the next day, I ended up in bed for a few days and was unable to put the hours and the concentration in, so I decided it was best not to play as I could end up losing a lot more.

Overall, I am pretty happy with what I achieved, although if I had run a little better in the last week, I could have easily made it. Even playing a decent amount in the first few couple of months would have helped as well.

Again, this comes back to dedication and motivation, which I still lack a lot of, despite having a fun thing set up in the house between the three of us. We have points assigned to different things like weekly total hands played, weekly profits, loss of points for every gym visit missed (under three) and a few other points for betting naps of the week and other stuff.

All these points are added up and at the end of May the winner gets paid into the WSOP Main Event by the other two. This was just a simple thing we came up with to help us get motivated to play more and get some much needed exercise.

I have no real plans for February except to keep grinding away and maybe plan our trip to Vegas and get a house sorted. Was looking to play the European Deep Stack Poker Championship III, but obviously I didn't register online. So I might head down on Thursday to play the super sat, as that's the only way in now. I have a feeling that will be packed out as well though, feckin Frenchies!

Till next time.

Hi Peter,

Although you didn't achieve the original goal in the end it is still an impressive performance.

Just going by your blog you were downbeat about the challege at various stages but in the end you really got into a good rhythm. I think there is a lot to learn from that.

I was heads up with you on one of those Saturday nights Freerolls in the back end of november. Unfortunaley all my winnings went on Sligo to win the cup the following day.

Anyways, good luck for the rest of the year.

One question.

Do you think having some sort of hand analysis software is absolutely necessary? I have never purchased one before.
