On Saturday I headed off down to the Collusus for the "Be Our Sponsored Pro" final. We seemed to drift between Ryans Bar and the card room, but I can safely say most time was spent in the bar!
The tournament kicked off around 5.30 and went on until about 10.30. Well done to Noel for taking it down, even though he beat my student whom I spent hours with before-hand discussing as many difficult situations that could possibly arise. Well to be honest, I think we spent an hour in the bar and that was about it. I thought calming his nerves might be the best approach to take :)
When the tournament finished everyone went back to Ryans and then the night continued right through to the early hours of the next morning. I managed to get some breakfast in the hotel before I got to sleep, which I have to say went down very well. I had to get up a few hours later, as I was supposed to go back home on Sunday, but I had got myself involved in the Boylepoker Team for Sunday's team event in the Jackpot. Our team was Paul Spillane, Ciaran Corbett, Lisa Condon and of course, myself. I think there were 25 teams in total and with a lot of tired team members, including myself, this was going to be a tough ask! In fact, I think one of the team fell asleep at the table and I'm not naming names, but she knows who she is.
After many hours our whole team was still intact and had a few nice stacks and with 3k for first prize I started to think we might have a shot here, but then we had two casualties in the space of 2 minutes, which left me and Paul needing to go deep to get top place.
As people got knocked out all around us, we had been hanging on and trying to move up positions, it was a strange tournament for me as I was folding in spots where I used to be shoving, because the team prize was the most important and we were in first place. Then with about 12 or 13 people left, we had it won, as nobody could mathematically get less points than us.
I had been short since I bluffed off half my stack in one pot, even though I knew he was going to call me. I then got lucky when my 97 of diamonds shove was called by ace ten and I got there on the flop and held. There were still individual prizes to play on for, but although we both got to the the final table Paul was knocked out in 7th and I followed closely in 6th. By this time it was after 2 o'clock and we managed to get a few drinks to celebrate. An important thing I forget to mention here was my 50 euro last longer bet with Ciaran, if he could learn to fold Kings pre, he might have had a chance!!!!
On Monday, I went to play football for the first time in a few weeks and when I came back I started to play some $1-$2, although I am not properly rolled for this, I cut my tables down between 4 and 6 so I wasn't just playing like a robot and I was thinking more about my decisions. I had some data on the $1-$2 games as I had datamined over the past few days so that I could have a head start when I move up.
I played very tight over the session and I ended up $840 after 2k hands, which is pretty good and it's about time I had a nice winning session. The plan is to stick at these stakes and play a few MTTS over the next week. Missing these days has really been killing me and although it might be too late, I am just going to spend the next ten days stuck in front of the computer. I am feeling a little more confident after today's session, so I will hope to get another winning day tomorrow. If I can keep winning $800 per day I might just get there!!
