Upward curve

I started playing again on Wednesday night starting with a few MTTs, I had set my alarm to get up in time for the freerolls as I thought I might get a result in one of these as they are usually good value; however, it was not to be.

I did though get a good run in one of the MTTs, it was $5 and $6k gtd with 1400 runners or so. I was going ok for a long time but when it came down to the business end, I couldn't get a hand. I think I was knocked out in 40th or so for about $32 but I can't really remember as I had this all written down and my laptop crashed so I lost my first draft :(

Not a bad result but still first place was $1500 and how sweet that would be at this stage. I have only played a few MTTs but I seem to be doing rather well, but then again not getting the big score. My exit hand was one I could have avoided I think, but I am not sure if I made the right play. I had 53k and UTG +1 had 48k, blinds were 2.5k/5k at this stage and I hadn't seen a hand in a few orbits so I was just staying afloat by stealing when I got the opportunity.

Anyway, he shoves and it's up to me and I have AQ, obviously I called but I have been thinking it is a pretty close one, even though with less than 10 BB his range is pretty wide so maybe I made the right call, anyway he had AK and I am busto - all that work for minimal reward.

After this, my total was about $350 or so and I decided to play a few STTs, they had been going ok but I bubbled a few in a row and it tilted me slightly. Then I made a big mistake, I opened up about six cash tables and a few STTs at once and got off to a bad start on the cash getting rivered a few times, so I went on tilt again and this cost me about four buy-ins at 10c/20c which is $80. I got my act together, left the cash and went back to just the STTs.

I got back some of my cash loses and ended the night on about $300, all in all not a great day as I was down a little but that was due to tilting which I am trying to avoid like the plague.

Thursday, I got out of bed just in time to go to the cinema with my mate to see Slumdog Millionaire (great show btw and would recommend as a must see, Freida Pinto "Litaka" is a very good added bonus, absolutely amazing). Anyway, back to poker and I decide to just focus on STTs tonight hoping to play $5 and $10 as at this time it seems to be hard to get enough $10 ones to play. I was running pretty good even though I had AA all in on level 1 busted by KK but that's standard, and getting a lot of cashes. I met TheDrunkenOne who is a regular commenter here, so I will say hello to him and nice playing with you.

I was up to over $400 and was starting to feel good so I took a little break and when I returned I decided to open up a good few tables for my last session of the night. I busted from the first few but I had a built a few nice stacks in the rest, I have been playing more patiently now in these and think its working to my benefit. I counted eight races in a row I lost coming near the end of these, seven were straight race and one was KJ v my QQ, but because I was well chipped up in these it gave me the chance to recover from this.

I ended up winning five out of the last seven that I played which really boosted my roll and left me feeling a lot better about the whole situation, it took my balance to close to $520 I went to bed but couldn't sleep so I fired up five more STTs for $10, and quickly busted out of four of them. I was starting to quickly regret playing them, so I had to try to win the last one to try to make a bit of a recover for the short session which I managed to do and it keeps my roll over the $500 mark.

Total Balance now stands at $506.97 :)

My sharkscope graph is starting to look very healthy indeed with a nice upward curve, long may it continue!

Day 1 Pete at the 1st table on right as you come in the door. I was in seat 4 I believe and I think u were in seat 8 or 9. I had a cast on my left arm. I can only remember a couple of hands with you, 1 of which you doubled me up. My 1010 held up against your 99 :-) It was my 1st big tourney and I really enjoyed the experience. Unfortunatly I ran my QQ into a set of 9's on a 9 high flop early on day 2 and that was it. I didn't know anything about you at the time but I could see after a short time at the table you were the one to steer clear of. I picked up something from you that I use with good effect. Don't want to say what it is though. Good luck with the challenge.

Kmow that feeling Drunken One. Had about €120 in an accoumt a few weeks ago. Got a few cans and stayed up all night playing cash. Went to bed with about 30 cent left. Good craic though.

What table was that Gordon?? And what seat where u in??

got drunk played 1/2 NLHE and 3/6 FLHE cash and almost bust £18 left :-(
show us how its done with discipline/BR management and plenty of skill Mr Murphy.I need something/someone to aspire to :-)

freida pinto oh yess best of luck so far so good how long left

Pete good stuff. Wish you all the best from your pal Fud. Still going to attempt to take money off you back home but im sure with your solid and great play you'll get there. Great stuff and best of luck

Well done Pete. I feel this experiment will give a lot of poker players a boost because if successful, it will prove that good poker combined with bankroll management payes off in the long run. I started a week ago on an ipoker site too. started with 100 euro or $133. Up to $261 but I am away for 10 days so have to take a break. I was at the same table as Pete on day 1 of the IWF, great player.

very well done lads, keep it going,i'm on a wee mission myself.to get from nothing to $1000 over a year, hopefully we,ll all get there,..:)

Nice one Pete. Your graph is definitly heading in the right direction!

well done ...you are now starting to move, have been spying on you (running same challenge alongside you but in £ with £100 start ..currently £362 )You seem to be getting deep in the mtts but need FT to get good payouts. As to the AQ you mention I would have folded for a few reasons. I rather bet than call with AQ . you had a 'm' of 7.5 which although low but relative to other stacks probably still has a high fold equity. He had a high range yes but I dont want to 'race' an 'All in' hand from villain in early position. Probably a bit tight but I dont like AQ :-) hopefully meet up on a final table soon :-) PMA (positive mental attitude) with STAM (suckouts to a minimum)
